FITNESS & NUTRITION
For some, the idea of fitness is scary or boring, for others it is an escape from work or your stressful day, a way of life or just simply embedded into there everyday routine... Some workout for the aesthetics, whereas others will do it for the long term health benefits, some to get stronger or if your like me, you'll lift and run and jump to feel like a #GIRLBOSS when you can do something you didn't think you could, or get a new pb (personal best) or are able to run for a bit longer than you did the time before.
Nowadays there is a lot of pressure on people to look or feel a certain way, to be a specific dress size or go to the gym 7 days a week.
Fitness doesn't have to be pressure, it doesn't have to be something which makes you stressed or anxious, it can simply be a long walk one day and a sweaty plyometric bodyweight session in the gym the next. The wonderful thing about being active is that you can do it anywhere, at home, in the park, on your lunch break at work or in gym- its the versatility which makes its simply fantastic.
For myself personally I have been going to the gym now for around 2 and a half years- its been a amazing journey so far, I have lost a few pounds, gained some muscle, become fitter and let me tell you I've worked my a** at some points for this. My goal at the beginning was the look a bit different, maybe get a bigger bum, tone my belly a little and maybe be able to run a little longer, NOW though, my goals change all the time, I want to be able to life heavy and jump super high and sprint really bloody fast. I just want to be the best version of myself that I can be, my ultimate goal is no longer to look a certain way, but to feel good and show people that fitness IS fun.
Lets talk nutrition... Nowadays on Instagram and Facebook we see all of these super fit, healthy looking bodies with a '30 day ab challenge' in the description, they don't tell you that in fact most abs are predominantly made in the kitchen. In order to shed some fat or reach your initial 'body goals', eating a diet which your body can thrive off and perform its best is crucial.
For me, my body works its best when I eat wholesome, naturally high fat foods but for others it could be a low fat high carb diet that you thrive off or just a balance of all the food groups. Don't get me wrong though, I am in no way deprived of a piece of dark chocolate (or 10) or a few scoops of Ben and Jerry's every now and then, but 90% of the time I am craving all the eggs, avo and greens you could get.
The moral of this post is, find what works for you and utilize that, for me its about finding a balance and listening to your body, if you fancy eggs, eat eggs, if you're feeling some banana pancakes (i'll share my recipe soon), then make those pancakes and eat 'em! Listen to your body, feel good in your own skin and train when you feel like it.
